What makes an icon?

Carhartt WIP Icons have stayed true to their decades-long, utilitarian origins. Over the years, these styles may fade and fray; eventually replaced by newer iterations, in unseen colors and fabrics. Their form, however, stays solid; details instantly recognizable and unchanged.

The Michigan Coat continues to bear its typical four-pocket configuration. The Detroit Jacket is still characterized by its waist-length, zipped front and zipped chest pocket. The Double Knee Pant maintains its signature double-layer knees, tool pockets and hammer loop. For Spring/Summer 2026, these signature styles appear in new shades of dusky turquoise, green and mauve, offset by long-standing core shades of Hamilton Brown, black and navy.

But our Icon styles also give rise to new adaptations; a starting point for exploration and evolution. The Women’s Maeve Skirt nods to our Double Knee Pant through its panelling and metal rivets; the Clapton Jacket has a silhouette inspired by our Michigan Coat, updated in nylon canvas with an additional sleeve pocket; and the Women’s Clark Jacket offers a subtly oversized take on the Detroit Jacket – a synthesis of its boxy workwear origins and how these jackets are worn today.
